Oil on linen, 24″ x 36″, 2017
The setting is the area around the Tribeca Tavern in Tribeca, New York. The street in the foreground (6th Avenue) runs parallel to the picture plane, while the buildings in the background (on Beach and White Streets) are at an angle, so you have a mix of horizontal and vertical lines, as well as diagonals. The windshield glass in the foreground provides for reflections that incorporate even more angles. The blue in the sky is repeated in the blue of the reflection. The greens help to unify the composition. In the center, a vacant building with intricate brickwork posts a sign “Coming Soon”.
Here are some other paintings of Tribeca.
