Winter Walk – 18″x24″

Winter Walk

Oil on linen, 18″ x 24″, 2014

.

The setting is a quiet road on one of our winter morning walks in Sharon, CT.   This is a relatively simple composition, where the perspective basically leads the eye down the road into the distance, but the bright colors take you back to the picture plane and its edges.  Although this is a celebration of nature, the one indication of humanity that I kept in the painting is the tire tracks in the snow.  It’s also a study in contrasts:  light and dark, and cold (represented by blue, violet, snow, winter) and hot (represented by orange, yellow).
