Virgin River – Zion

This painting is inspired by Zion National Park, Utah. The setting is the Virgin River, along the Emerald Pools Trail. A rider is crossing the river in the foreground. I was interested in the contrasts between the softness in the trees, water, and sky against the chiseled rocks above. The challenge was to capture the grandness and magnificence of the setting on such a small scale.
