Blondie on Bleecker – 36″x48″

Blondie on Bleecker

Oil on linen, 36″ x 48″, 2021

.

The scene is Bleecker Street at Bowery in NoHo.  It features an adaptation of Shepard Fairey’s Blondie mural featuring Debbie Harry, using the original B&W reference photo by Bobby Grossman, and cut-outs of the Parallel Lines and Pollinator album covers.  Here I am interested in not just the mural, but depicting it in its setting.  In adapting for the oil painting, I paint the figures realistically rather than stylized.

Here’s a pic of me with Bobby Grossman on April 16, 2022 at the opening of his exhibit “Low Fidelity” at Howl! Arts in NYC, with the original photo of Debbie Harry in the background…

…and again on July 14, 2022 at my opening of “Resilience in NYC” at Bowery Gallery.  Photo by Ray Camp.
