Blue Fin – Times Square
Oil on canvas, 18″ x 24″, 2008
.
After painting the three-panel Love Note, From Times Square, I decided to make a three small painting to continue the Times Square theme. It might seem paradoxical in light of the theme, but I wanted to make paintings that had an intimate feeling. This was the first. In Blue Fin, with the floor to ceiling glass walls and looking through from one side to the adjacent side you have a mix of subjects in the background across the street, in the interior space, and then in the reflection in the glass wall in the foreground. I wanted to use these juxtaposed images to convey some of the visual excitement and chaos of the Times Square. If you notice the people, there is a feeling of disconnectedness. Everyone is in their own world, even though they are in close proximity.
