This painting was inspired by the Book Club Bar on East 3rd Street in the East Village, a blend of bookstore and bar. I was intrigued by the space with its front wall opened up, studying it at different times of day to capture the full interior, extending the view all the way to the garden in the back. On the left, a door reflects a surreal scene, merging the outdoor street with the seated figures inside. Meanwhile, patrons are absorbed in reading and enjoying drinks at the bar and the lounge further back.
