Love on Orchard- 24″x36″

Love on Orchard

Oil on linen, 24″ x 36″, 2024

.

The setting for this painting is Orchard Street in the Lower East Side, just north of Broome. The April afternoon sun casts diagonal shadows across the scene. The vibrant ‘Love” mural dominates the center, with its hues echoed in the clothing rack of the corner shop and extending to the figure walking diagonally into the frame.

Aside from the main space in the foreground, the composition includes three additional areas: the building entrance on the left, the shop interior (a mashup of the original ‘Scotch and Soda,’ later replaced by ‘le PÈRE’), and Broome Street on the right, featuring an outdoor dining structure. A small triangle of sky in the upper right corner repeats its color diagonally down to the window and mural. There are no trees or plants in this composition—the figure’s clothing is the only indication of the time of year.
