LoveShackFancy
Oil on linen, 36″ x 48″, 2024

This nocturnal painting showcases LoveShackFancy, a boutique on Bleecker Street in the West Village. The vibrant display against the backdrop of a cold winter night caught my eye. In the center, a mannequin sits regally, seemingly gazing out, while potted shrubs outside appear almost as if they’re leaning in, listening intently. The flowers outside echo those in the display.
To the left, the doorway is lit from above, and to the right, the shop spotlights illuminate the doorway, casting shadows of the flowers. A figure is poised to exit the building, blurred by frosted glass. The tree on the right creates a visual separation between us and the sidewalk.
The apartment windows above display a progression from left to right: starting with a grid pattern, transitioning to loose verticals, then tight verticals, and finally an open window lit by a screen, adding depth and intrigue to the scene.
Here’s a video of the painting process, and here are other storefront paintings.
