On Jersey Street

The setting is Jersey Street in Soho, NYC. This is a short, two block street between Crosby and Mulberry. There are a number of contrasts here, starting with the group of figures in the middle ground and the lone figure walking in the foreground. The background, Crosby Street is in direct sunlight, accentuating the architectural details, whereas the Jersey Street walls are in shadow, lit by only by reflected light. I felt this created a certain tension, especially with the cool blue-greens, the dark reds, and the bright yellow.
