The Bowery at the corner of Bleecker Street in New York City is an interesting location because of its “T” intersection, which allows for a unique perspective of the buildings and a wide view of the street. The scene is particularly striking during a November afternoon, where the warm colors of the buildings contrast beautifully against the deep blue sky. The white, red, green, and orange shapes of the buildings and the punctuations of windows of various shapes and sizes create an interesting visual composition. The shadows of the fire escapes adds depth to the relatively shallow space, creating a sense of dimension and movement. The woman in the red sweatshirt running from the crosswalk towards an onlooker adds a sense of human presence and activity to the scene. The former location of CBGB, which closed in 2006 is on the right, adding a historical and cultural context to the painting.
