Overthrow Boxing Club
Oil on linen, 18″ x 24″, 2017
.
This is the exterior of the Overthrow Boxing Club, on Bleecker Street in NoHo, New York City, in late afternoon. I was taken with the explosion of colors and graffiti, and how the light fell, particularly through the fire escape, but also to the door on the right — it looks like the light could be shining out instead of in. This is made even more ambiguous by reflected light (from the display window) interrupting the shadow line.
Next door to the Overthrow Boxing Club is Quartino, painted in 2020.
