View from the High Line at Sunset – Gansevoort Street
Oil on linen, 24″ x 36″, 2018, private collection
.
I was inspired by the sunset view of Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District, NYC, as seen from the High Line. The reflected reds of the sunset are just touching the buildings in the background, and the foreground is mostly in shadow. One prominent element is a black and white billboard of eyes looking back at the viewer. Various people are having drinks, meeting friends, (asking directions), while one person on the right is picking through garbage. The composition is mostly blue and red. Figures at the bottom bring the sky colors to the foreground.
Here are some other paintings of the High Line.
