Grand Canyon at Sunrise #1

From a recent trip out west. I knew it would be challenging to try to capture the beauty of something so vast as the Grand Canyon on a small canvas, but once I got started, I didn’t think about it any more. I liked the play of the light on the canyon at sunrise and in this scene, how the trees in the two corners frame the whole composition. Also interesting is the contrast between the weighty canyon and the ethereal clouds above. A favorite detail here is the little trail you see in the lower right, contrasting in scale with the vastness around it.
