Maine Coast – On the Edge

The setting is the Acadia National Park coastline, in Maine, with a lone figure, Zoey, at the edge, gazing out to sea. I wanted to portray the contrasts in the surfaces, from the rounded rocks in the foreground to the jagged rocks in the middle ground, to the churning sea beyond. Compositionally, they grays tie the foreground to the background to unify the plane, and the red jacket breaks up an otherwise muted color scheme. To emphasize the diagonals, I chose to eliminate the horizon from view.
