Yosemite Valley
Oil on linen, 24″ x 36″, 2016
This is Yosemite Valley in early Fall. It is early morning. The scene is separated into three spaces: the background, where the mountains are lit from the left and gradually recede into the blue sky, the middleground, with a small group of deer and an orange-yellow field contrasting the blue sky, and the foreground, with some wildflowers (lupines) suggesting the blues of the sky and mountains, and a boulder suggesting the shape of the mountains. The diagonal of the trees on the left roughly mirrors the mountains on the right.
