Think Coffee
Oil on linen, 18″ x 24″, 2021, private collection

The scene is the cafe “Think Coffee” on Bleecker Street at Bowery in NoHo, across the street from Shepard Fairey’s Blondie mural. The reflection of Debbie Harry is visible in the cafe’s window. As with the earlier Blondie on Bleecker, I opted to use the original B&W reference photo by Bobby Grossman. Figures also appear sitting at the tables in various relaxed poses and one standing, painted on the brick wall to the left of the window. The foreground is punctuated by the primary colors red, blue and yellow. Light blue is repeated in the sky, the word “think”, and in the woman’s jeans. The red emergency box in the foreground is balanced by the red wall on the left. Green is repeated in the trees in the background, the potted plants on the ground and in the window boxes above.
