Three Cars / Run DMC

The intersection of East 12th Street and Avenue A in the East Village is home to Eduardo Kobra’s iconic Run DMC mural, which has been a prominent feature of the area since 2018.
On a gray, early spring afternoon, the black and white tones of the mural perfectly complement the gloomy weather. The two additional white cars in the street add a sense of realism to the painting and tie in with the “three cars” in the title. My interpretation of the mural was based on the original reference photograph, but with several intentional changes, both big and small. Despite the graffiti that has accumulated over time, the mural’s power and impact remain undiminished.
